Chapter 1 – The Old Lady
‘As the woman took off the Paisley pattern brown scarf she had wrapped around her head, Grace saw her face for the first time. She could make out a warm, welcoming smile and youthful, luminous skin. The old lady smoothed down her grey hair which was scraped back with wisps falling to the side of her head. With her big dark eyes framed in quirky black-rimmed glasses, she looked like a wise old owl. There was a brightness surrounding her that seemed to light up everything and everywhere. Grace wondered if she was real or some kind of ethereal figure that only she could see. Grace watched as the woman then gently closed her eyes and started to breathe slowly. She had an odd smile on her face and looked happy for no apparent reason.’
